Initializing and Upgrading DXP/Plus and FX Systems
• The technique you use to initialize or upgrade software on a Comdial phone system depends
on the type of Comdial system with which you are working.
• DXP systems use EPROM chips to house the phone system program file software. EPROM
chips are housed on a memory card. The software stored on the EPROM chips cannot be
modified. Therefore, to upgrade a DXP system, you must either replace the chips or install a
different memory card that contains updated EPROM chips.
• On DXP Plus and FX family systems, Comdial program software is stored in Flash RAM.
Comdial systems using Flash RAM can be initialized or updated through software downloads
to the Flash RAM. You obtain the software from the Dealer Resource Center of the Comdial
web site. This section explains the procedure.
NOTE: Comdial DXP Plus and FX96 systems require technicians to run a program called Label Bin
during the initialization or upgrade process. This program associates a .bin file, which contains the
Comdial system software, with a specific CPU serial number of a system being initialized or upgraded.
Running Label Bin is a required step on DXP Plus and FX96 systems, but is not required on any other
FX system.
You obtain the Label Bin program from the Comdial Dealer Resource Center. Information on using
the program is also provided: http://echannel.comdial.com/echannel/lbinst.asp
• The specific steps you use to upgrade each Comdial system are detailed in the General
Description document generated for each Comdial system software release. For example, for
specific steps to upgrade each type of system to Release 190 with the 17A feature set, refer to
the document “Release 190, Feature set 17A General Description.”
• Software release general descriptions are available from the Dealer Resource Center on the
Comdial web site.
Documentation Review (Hands on)
• Access the document “Release 190, Feature set 17A General Description” from the Literature
area of the Comdial Dealer Resource Center. Review the document, particularly the upgrade
instructions.
• If you work with DXP Plus or FX96 systems, access the Label Bin instructions from the
Software area of the Comdial Dealer Resource Center (look for these instructions under the
DXP Plus or FX Series software headings).
